Like everyone else said, kingdom hearts was supposed to be a mix between final fantasy and disney. There's many FF characters in KH, spell names from FF, etc. so it's not surprising for it to be associated with FF.. Rip out the Disney worlds for knockoff lookalikes with different names, swap all Disney characters for original stand-ins and make equally inconsequential plotlines for each and it's just a Final Fantasy game with very bizarre sidequests.

While the franchise was initially conceived as a crossover between Square Enix's Final Fantasy and the worlds of various Disney films, it's still unclear how heavily the upcoming Kingdom..
