Remember that there are two power sources for the coil. A "full" 12 v source for when the engine is cranking (reduced somewhat by the load from the starter), and a resistor wire that reduces the coil supply voltage to about 10.5 volts.. It seems as though none of my wiring matches any wiring diagram that I can find. I have a pink wire that I have traced back to the ignition that I'm using for a 12 volt wire, then I have a yellow wire back to starter, which are on the positive side of the coil. Then the wire coming from the distributor on the negative side of the coil.
Wire the opposite end of the ballest resistor to ign1. It should start and run. If you don't have a ballest resistor, you can temporiarly connect ign1 and ign2 together, but the points won't last long this way. The resistor wire in the diagram is not the ballest resistor. The resistance wire is used in conjunction with the idiot light to start.. where is the ignition coil resistor located on 1972 chevy truck with 350ci v8 ? 10-18-2012, 01:24 AM #2: VetteVet.
