Connect alternator pin 1 to your ignition switch.. through the indicator light/diode/resistor - depending on how you wish to configure this exciter terminal. I didn't note if your tractor was a diesel - if it is, you can probably connect the alternator pin 1 wire directly to the ignition switch. I recommend wiring this through a 47 ohm, 2 watt resistor if you decide to eliminate the indicator.. The Farmall M 12-volt wiring diagram includes several key components that are important for the proper functioning of the electrical system: Generator/Alternator: The generator or alternator is responsible for producing electrical power to charge the battery and operate the tractor's electrical components.
Taking all the above into account, here is how I scribbled up my copy of that wiring diagram, try it yourself on your wiring diagram, it will start to make a lot of sense and soon, you'll be designing your own tractor's conversion. Recap: 1. The alternator wire will be a number 10 wire run to the ammeter. Must reverse the poles on the ammeter.. I am working on a Farmall H and converting it from the 6 volt generator to a 12 volt alternator. I ordered a kit from Bates corp and I received it today. This tractor is a real old and rough restoration my Granddad did when I was young. One of the things that never worked right was the generator.
